My father has served in the Hindustan Times for 27 years. From my childhood, I was fascinated by the business of news publication and had dreams of running an international newspaper one day. Instablogs was conceived from the idea of news for a global citizen's newspaper. We wanted to build a platform where we could, through a collaborative news approach, highlight critical issues by the people who are actually the most affected by the event.
The underlying problem we wanted to solve was that every news item means different things to different people. {quotes}The definition, perspective and impact of the news changes every hundred miles.{/quotes} News is only 'news' when it affects an individual's life. People are the real news. There was no platform available that not only gave you a comprehensive understanding of the event but also brought out the impact it had on the lives in all parts of the world.
Instablogs is the only platform of its kind that works through collaboration between people in different time zones, irrespective of their religion, ethnicity, nationality or even ideology. Our community works together as a team on stories, and this not only helps people to understand each other's issues but also initiates a dialogue between them.
Today, Instablogs has a strong and active community of 25,000 members, and 40 lakh page views per month. We cover over 60 countries as of now, and by the end of next year we want to reach out to every country on this planet. At a time when every mainstream media house is cutting down on its international coverage, we are fast expanding it.
No matter where you live on this planet, some things can be difficult. No place is free of problems. But history has shown us that solutions happen when people come together and collaborate on problems of any size. Instablogs is a place where the world collaborates. We want to change the world by letting people see others' perspectives and overcome their biases. And there could be no better way to start this dialogue than by making them work together.
