Rohit Agrawal is the CEO of techTribe.com, a portal that serves as a community platform where professionals can have access to collective knowledge that can help accelerate careers.

Rohit Agrawal, CEO, techTribe.com

We formed techTribe after I spent three months in India. In those three months, I realised that while there were millions of technology and BPO (business process outsourcing) professionals in India, there was a large gap in their ability to learn new skills that their counterparts in other companies had.

techTribe was formed to build a community that would allow these professionals to share their knowledge-driving career growth. We figured that someone who knew how to use AJAX could share that knowledge with someone who was looking to learn; and someone who did DCF (discounted cash flow)- based valuations could share that knowledge with someone looking to raise venture financing. The idea was simple - let professionals share their knowledge, in bite-sized portions. Similarly, professionals could help connect candidates and jobs in the growing markets, also driving career growth.

techTribe's dream is to help us learn through simply 'sharing'. In Silicon Valley, where I spent a lot of time before moving to India, we learnt what we now know by interacting with other, not just through formal classes. We learnt new skills, connected with companies, met new people, all because of others who were willing to lend a helping hand, and share their knowledge. Our professional network helped our careers, it was pretty simple. And because the network helped, we, as professionals, gave back to our network too, freely. We were willing to help others by connecting them to knowledge, jobs, and people. techTribe's dream is to make that possible in India - the world's fastest growing economy. Our dream is to drive learning through 'bite sized education' and to drive jobs through 'quality referrals'.

Our hope is that techTribe can change how we learn. We have grown up in an education system where we learnt by going to classes. There's no reason why we can't learn in small 'bite sized pieces'. In fact, my view is that we learn best when someone knowledgeable sits with us and 'shows us' how to do a particular thing. And that someone knowledgeable can be someone we already know. What we need is a platform to connect with them. techTribe's dream is to become that platform.

At techTribe, we dream of the day when we, as professionals in India, make the sharing of knowledge and information about jobs, part of our daily lives. Imagine a day when we share what we read in the news, because it may help someone else in our field. Imagine if we learn of a job vacancy, and immediately connect someone we know to the company in search of a candidate because we know they'd be a good fit. Imagine doing it every day--not because we were paid to, but because we are citizens of our economy, and it's part of what we do, period.
