Do you have large data archives, a multimedia library, or a space-hogging video collection? If so, there's a fair chance that you need a hard drive with lots of space to spare. It is for such hard disk space guzzlers that Western Digital has launched the Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB WD20EADS hard drive that takes the HDD capacity game to a new level-cramming two terabytes (TB) of data into a single drive.

The capacious internal drive sits on a 3.5-inch (8.89 cm) platform, includes 32 MB of cache, and comes with a number of Western Digital's in-house technologies, including its 500 GB per platter technology (with 400 gigabits per square inch areal density).

StableTrac secures the motor shaft at both ends and hence reduces vibration to help head-track accurately during read and write operations. IntelliPower adjusts the balance of spin speeds, transfer rates, and caching algorithms for optimal performance and power consumption, while IntelliSeek optimises seek speeds and enables lower power consumption, noise, and vibration.

With all this on board, the drive could pose a serious threat to Seagate's Barracuda 7200.11, which can store up to 1.5 terabytes.
